Through her own experience with postnatal depression, singer-songwriter Lizzie Reynolds is channeling her pain into songs designed to help fellow mothers feel they aren’t alone.
My goal is for mums going through postnatal depression to understand that they aren’t alone. If even one mother finds comfort in my music, that carries more weight than any amount of streaming numbers.”— Lizzie Reynolds
Independent singer-songwriter Lizzie Reynolds is converting one of the hardest chapters of her life into melodies that now resonate with millions online, offering other mothers a sense of connection.
Living in Wyboston, close to St Neots in Cambridgeshire, Lizzie works as a professional vocalist, is a mother of two, and records her own music independently—her songs deeply shaped by her own encounter with postnatal depression.
After giving birth to her children, especially following her second son’s arrival, Lizzie faced a challenging bout of postnatal depression.
“Postnatal depression can leave you feeling profoundly alone,” Lizzie explained. “Motherhood is frequently portrayed as a time filled with expected happiness and gratitude, and when your reality doesn’t match that, admitting you’re struggling can feel intimidating.”
Lizzie emphasizes that going through postnatal depression doesn’t mean a mother lacks love for her child or has fallen short as a parent, a message she wants to spread widely.
“I want other mums to know they’re not by themselves,” she shared. “Often, just hearing another mother say, ‘I’ve been there too,’ can have a huge impact.”
It’s only been roughly six months since Lizzie started putting out her own original tracks.
These songs came together as her four-track EP My Baby Blues Era, which chronicles her path through postnatal depression, the realities of motherhood, reaching out for help, and ultimately finding healing.
The EP features Baby Blues, which captures her postnatal depression experience; Talk To Me, focusing on opening up and connecting; I Won’t Let You Down, a heartfelt note to her two sons; and Tomorrow Is a Brand New Day, centered on optimism and getting better.
Since the music came out, Lizzie notes that the most touching feedback has come from mothers who see their own stories reflected in her lyrics.
“The numbers are amazing, but when a mum tells me, ‘That’s exactly how I felt,’ it means far more than any streaming count,” she said.
Lizzie’s rise online has been swift.
She joined TikTok just about a year ago and has since gathered a following of over 30,000 people.
Her track I Won’t Let You Down has racked up more than 2.2 million plays and views on TikTok, and her live singing sessions attract thousands of viewers on a regular basis.
Three of Lizzie’s original compositions—Baby Blues, I Won’t Let You Down, and Tomorrow Is a Brand New Day—have additionally earned recognition from BBC Introducing.
In September 2026, Lizzie was invited by TikTok and flown to Madrid for the Coca-Cola Music Experience event.
“A year ago, I was just getting started on TikTok, and six months back, I had only begun releasing my own music,” Lizzie reflected. “Now, one song has surpassed 2.2 million listens and views, three have gotten BBC Introducing backing, and music has taken me from a tiny Cambridgeshire village all the way to an international stage in Madrid.”
Prior to dedicating herself to music entirely, Lizzie worked at Tesco for five years, spending two of those as a Community Champion.
She eventually left the stability of that position to pursue her musical ambitions, building her career by performing at weddings, pubs, restaurants, and various events before launching her own releases.
Lizzie continues to operate as an independent artist, without a major record label or a big support team behind her.
She now hopes that her expanding audience can help spark more open discussions about postnatal depression and maternal mental well-being.
“If someone listens to Baby Blues and realizes she isn’t the only woman who has experienced these feelings, then that’s exactly what I hope these songs accomplish,” she said.
