Widely known as the Queen of Freestyle, Judy Torres has mesmerized audiences with smash singles like “No Reason to Cry” and “Come Into My Arms,” packed-out concerts, and a career that has thrived for over four decades. For the first time, Judy opens up about the deeply human story that lies behind her songs.

Slated for release on September 29, 2026, through Ballast Books, No Reason to Cry follows Judy’s path from her youth in the Bronx to becoming one of freestyle music’s most lasting voices. Along the route, she delivers an honest examination of the hurdles she encountered away from the stage, including family strife, betrayal, trauma, insecurity, and the slow journey toward recovery and self-understanding.

Crafted with warmth, sincerity, humor, and openness, No Reason to Cry goes beyond the typical celebrity memoir. It stands as a tribute to the strength of the human spirit and a reminder that our history doesn’t have to dictate our future. Through intimate anecdotes and earned insights, Judy motivates readers to take charge of their own lives and recognize that they hold the ability to create their next chapter.

Devotees of freestyle will find exclusive backstage tales from the genre’s revolutionary 1980s and ’90s period, while readers from every background will encounter a universal theme of optimism, endurance, and change. Judy’s story shows that recovery is achievable, meaning can arise from suffering, and every conclusion carries the promise of a fresh start.

Judy first gave her supporters a glimpse behind the scenes with her lauded, completely sold-out off-Broadway solo show, No Reason to Cry. After audience members repeatedly urged her to share her complete narrative in a book format, she responded with a memoir that goes beyond her musical career to provide motivation for anyone facing life’s struggles.

These days, Judy keeps inspiring crowds as a performing artist, radio personality, stage and film performer, TEDx speaker, certified master life coach, and motivational speaker. With No Reason to Cry, she asks readers to uncover not just the person behind the melodies but also the lasting truth that no matter where your story starts, you possess the ability to determine its direction.

About the Author
Singer Judy Torres, born and raised in the Bronx, is a multi-talented individual: recording artist, radio host, actress, producer, model, TEDx speaker, life coach, and now author. Given the title Queen of Freestyle by her fans, Judy rose to fame in the 1980s with hits such as “No Reason to Cry,” “Come Into My Arms,” and “Love You, Will You Love Me.” Today, she remains as active as ever. Judy can be heard on New York’s WKTU station every weekend and frequently appears on screen or stage in award-winning television shows like Blue Bloods and productions like My Big Gay Italian Wedding. In 2018, Judy successfully wrote and performed No Reason to Cry: The One-Woman Show by Judy Torres at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater in the Broadway Theater District. What was intended as a one-weekend engagement turned into a fully sold-out four-month run!

At the flourishing age of fifty-six, Judy secured modeling contracts with Liz J Models and Seasoned Models, demonstrating that you are NEVER too old to chase new aspirations. Her TEDx talk “You Are NOT on Clearance!” is meant to remind people of their immense self-worth. Drawing on all her life experiences, Judy decided the time had come to give back. She has served as a certified master life coach for seven years, offering private coaching, running empowering group workshops, and delivering motivational speeches in her free time. Judy is THRILLED to now include “author” among her achievements with her freshly published memoir, No Reason to Cry. With this latest project, Judy considers herself a communicator whose mission is to inspire, encourage, and uplift others!
