Nearly three decades after Tupac Shakur’s death in Las Vegas, a new documentary promising to examine both his life and the latest legal twists in his murder case will make its world premiere in the very city where he was gunned down. The announcement positions the film as a major draw for the 2027 festival lineup.

LAS VEGAS, NV, UNITED STATES, November 6, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Organizers at the Las Vegas Film Festival have confirmed that “Tupac Shakur: Life and Murder of a Revolutionary and Music Legend”, directed by Ray Barron-Woolford FRSA, will debut at the 2027 edition of the event, scheduled for January 14–21 at Brenden Theatres inside the Palms Casino Resort.
This feature-length documentary delves into the remarkable journey, revolutionary politics, creative output, and tragic killing of Shakur, who remains a towering presence in contemporary culture. The project is described as an exploration of an artist whose impact went far beyond music, touching on activism and social commentary.

Significantly, the film integrates the newest developments emerging from the ongoing legal proceedings related to Shakur’s homicide, a case that has continued to fascinate the public for over thirty years and has recently seen new arrests and court activity.
The choice of Las Vegas for this premiere is deeply symbolic, as it was on the city’s streets that Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996. He succumbed to his injuries six days later at just 25 years old.
THE LIFE AND MURDER OF A CULTURAL ICON
Using a blend of intimate interviews, archival footage, and insights from family members, the documentary reconstructs the life of the artist while scrutinizing the events leading up to his death. Barron-Woolford’s lens captures how Shakur’s candid critiques of systemic racism, economic disparity, and political disenfranchisement established him as a defining voice for his era.
The narrative weaves together the disparate threads of culture, music, protest, fame, and violence that defined Shakur’s world, offering a comprehensive look at his legacy through a journalistic and cinematic approach.
A SPECIAL TWO-FILM EVENT
Attendees of the premiere will get more than just one feature film. The program is set to open with a screening of “Afeni Shakur and the Trial of the Panther 21,” an award-winning documentary that tells the story of Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, and her pivotal role in the historic Panther 21 trial.
This companion piece is intended to ground the main feature in the political history that shaped Tupac’s upbringing, resulting in a unique double-feature theatrical experience for festival-goers.
Following the main screening, the audience will be invited to stay for a question-and-answer session featuring director Ray Barron-Woolford, with additional special guests slated to be announced closer to the event date.
“We’re proud to present the world premiere of Ray Barron-Woolford’s Tupac Shakur film alongside his documentary about Afeni Shakur. Las Vegas holds a significant place in Tupac’s story, making it especially meaningful to bring these films to audiences here,” said Louie Comella, Executive Director of the Las Vegas Film Festival.
