This extraordinary collection of never-before-heard music, penned by the late Brill Building singer-songwriter Ike Joseph, is scheduled for release on August 28, 2026. It will act as a compelling link between eras, preserving a remarkable slice of jazz history that was nearly forgotten.
The album's release kicks off this summer with two classic, emotionally resonant singles that embody the heartfelt feel of 20th-century jazz standards. The first track, "How Wrong They Were," debuted on July 17. Featuring a gentle, piano-driven arrangement beneath Harris’s warm and emotive voice, the song evokes the style of artists like Nat King Cole. The second single, "I'm Hooked On You," follows on August 7, setting the stage for the complete album on August 28.
The origin of Swingin’ Love Songs dates back more than two decades, when Harris first encountered Ike Joseph’s music through Grammy Award-winning producer Eddie Montilla. That introduction made an immediate impact, as Joseph’s exceptional ability to create timeless tunes and profoundly sincere lyrics quickly captivated Harris.
Harris originally laid down the tracks in Miami, then returned to New York to rework them alongside an outstanding group of world-class jazz performers, among them guitarist Miles Okazaki, tenor saxophonist Hayes Greenfield, bassist Jon Flaugher, violinist Russell Farhang, and alto saxophonist Jesse Jones Jr.
Soon after the final recordings were completed, a tragedy unfolded. Ike Joseph passed away unexpectedly, and the project was quietly shelved. For over twenty years, the tapes remained untouched. A recent, unforeseen discovery of the master recordings showed that the music had retained all its original appeal, grace, and irresistible swing.
Harris saw a significant opportunity—and a deeply felt responsibility—to honor a commitment to a songwriter whose work deserved an audience. Swingin’ Love Songs marks Allan Harris’s 15th studio album, succeeding 2021’s Kate’s Soulfood. He has also recently put out two live albums recorded at the renowned Blue Llama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Over the last two years, he has been appearing with the touring concert production Harlem After Dark: An Uptown Jazz Party.
