After nearly two decades of composition, fundraising, and recording, Charles-Henri Avelange is set to lay down the last notes of his symphonic tribute to America’s firefighters — and the session will feature the very community that inspired it.

The California Professional Firefighters Bagpipes & Drums Corps will perform at the final recording session of The Fireman’s Prayer, scheduled for October 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Barbra Streisand Scoring Stage at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California.

Charles-Henri Avelange, the award-winning French-American composer behind the piece, has spent nearly 20 years bringing the work to life. The upcoming session marks the culmination of a journey that included a major milestone on July 14, 2026, when the composition was recorded at the same studio with the 90-piece Hollywood Scoring Orchestra under conductor Grant Gershon. Earlier sessions also captured performances by the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Los Angeles Children’s Chorus.

“For nearly twenty years, this composition has been my way of expressing gratitude to the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting others,” Avelange said. “Recording The Fireman’s Prayer at Sony Pictures Studios, surrounded by members of the firefighting community, made this one of the most meaningful moments of my career. I hope this music reminds firefighters that their courage, sacrifice, and service will never be forgotten.”
The October 29 session will bring together musicians and fire service leaders alike. Expected attendees include Deputy Chief Lawrence Collins (Cal OES), John Stockman (IAFF 7th District Benevolent Fund), California Fire Foundation President Darrell Roberts, and California Fire Foundation Director Kara Haynes.
The composition draws its inspiration from a 1957 poem written by firefighter A.W. “Smokey” Linn. Avelange has independently funded the project in partnership with the Los Angeles County Fire Museum Association throughout its nearly 20-year development. Its resonance has deepened in the wake of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
Following post-production, the work is slated for release on major streaming platforms. Avelange has committed to donating 100% of the proceeds to nonprofit organizations that support firefighters and their families.
“This project is much more than a musical composition,” said Deputy Chief Lawrence Collins (Cal OES). “It is a heartfelt tribute that recognizes the extraordinary commitment of firefighters and the sacrifices they make every day on behalf of our communities.”
“Music has a unique ability to preserve memories and unite people,” added John Stockman of the IAFF 7th District Benevolent Fund. “Projects like The Fireman’s Prayer ensure that future generations will continue to recognize and appreciate the service and dedication of firefighters.”

The Fireman’s Prayer: Choral recording session BTS
Why it matters: This final recording session represents the closing chapter of a two-decade artistic endeavor that channels symphonic music into direct support for firefighters and their families. With 100% of proceeds pledged to firefighter nonprofits, the project’s release later this year could set a precedent for how large-scale musical tributes translate into tangible community support.
