Comfy Classical turns Manhattan’s oldest farmhouse into a sweatpants-friendly chamber music salon

Forget stiff concert halls and formal dress codes — a new kind of chamber music experience is making its way to Manhattan’s northernmost tip, and it’s designed for maximum comfort. The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum, the last remaining farmhouse on the island, will host Comfy Classical, a laid-back music salon where both performers and audience members are encouraged to show up in their most relaxed attire.

NYC-based cellist Sasha Ono and violinist Emily Garrison will take over the historic venue on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, from 6 to 8 PM, with doors opening at 5:45 PM. The program spans classical repertoire, tango, and string arrangements of popular songs, all set against the candlelit ambiance of the 1784 farmhouse at 4881 Broadway in Inwood.

The concept is simple: treat an evening of live music like a night at a close friend’s home. Guests are invited to wear comfy clothes, and those who prefer sitting on the floor can bring their own blanket or pillow. Refreshments from local vendors, including tea and assorted treats, will be served throughout the evening.

Bringing Comfy Classical to Dyckman Farmhouse will be one of the most cozy fall experiences we’ve put together yet!”— Sasha Ono

Ono founded Comfy Classical on the belief that rest, comfort and creative socializing are essential to a fulfilling life. The series pairs top-tier chamber musicians with a multi-sensory, low-pressure setting, and has introduced many first-time listeners to classical chamber music. The event is open to all ages, and while admission is free, advance registration is strongly encouraged since seating is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

ABOUT DYCKMAN FARMHOUSE: Built c. 1784, the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum is the oldest remaining farmhouse in Manhattan. Located in the Inwood neighborhood, this Dutch Colonial style historic landmark serves as a community resource and educational museum. Owned by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and operated by the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum Alliance, the site is dedicated to preserving historic Upper Manhattan, engaging the public through cultural programming, and actively researching and telling the comprehensive history of the farm—including the vital contributions and lives of the enslaved people who lived and worked on the land.

This project is made possible in part with funds from UMEZ Arts Engagement, a regrant program supported by the funding agency Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone (UMEZ) and administered by LMCC.
