The Denton Black Film Festival is giving audiences an early reason to mark their calendars. With its 13th annual edition set for January 27–31, 2027, organizers have unveiled a first wave of programming highlights while opening Early Access Pass sales — a move that lets longtime fans and newcomers alike lock in plans before the full schedule drops.

Questlove’s Earth, Wind & Fire doc, a 35th-anniversary screening of Spike Lee’s Malcolm X and Brandon Collins’ Drunk Black History lead the first preview

This year’s festival, built around the theme “Together We Make,” promises a full big-screen theatrical experience. Headliners include a Questlove-directed documentary on Earth, Wind & Fire, a 35th-anniversary screening of Spike Lee’s Malcolm X, and a comedic take on Black film history from Brandon Collins.

Also worth a look: Todd Netland turns burnout and gospel tours into a tale of fame’s limits and Gina Zollman to release holiday single ‘New Favorite Christmas Song’ Nov. 17.

Returning January 27–31 for its 13th annual celebration, DBFF invites longtime passholders to make plans early and bring someone new. The Early Access Pass will allow you to capture five days of film, music, comedy and creative exchange, with additional screenings, performances and learning opportunities that will be announced throughout the fall. The early purchase option gives attendees two key advantages: securing a pass before the full schedule is released, and gaining extra time to review the busy lineup of films, events, and reservation requirements.

“We’re looking forward to elevating DBFF to even higher heights,” said Harry Eaddy, one of the festival’s co-founders. “The 2027 festival is featuring films and activities that are designed to appeal to anyone who is looking forward to immersing themselves in great film, music, comedy, art, and connecting with filmmakers and creatives. Most of all, we’re sure you’re going to have lots of fun.”

For returning fans, the message is simple: get your festival plans on the calendar and invite the friend who has been meaning to join you. For first-time attendees, this is an early look at the stories and experiences coming to Denton in January.

You also won’t want to miss the DBFF Institute workshops and panels that offer filmmakers and other creatives the opportunity to learn, engage and network.

Early Access pricing for VIP Experience and Film Experience passes ends November 6. Advance Pass sales for DBFF 2027 begin November 7, with all festival pass types available for purchase. The full festival schedule and individual event tickets will be available in mid-December. Secure your passes today here: https://bit.ly/dbff27-earlyaccess.
