These Editorial Standards outline the principles and practices that guide our work. Every member of our editorial team is expected to understand and adhere to these standards.
Our Mission
Our mission is to deliver honest, well-informed music criticism and reporting that serves our readers. We aim to enrich the listening experience, introduce audiences to exceptional music they might otherwise miss, and provide reliable coverage of the artists, labels, and trends shaping the industry. Every piece we publish reflects this commitment.
Accuracy and Fact-Checking
Accuracy is the foundation of credible journalism. All factual claims in our articles—including release dates, chart positions, personnel credits, label affiliations, and quoted statements—must be verified before publication. Our editors conduct independent fact-checking on every piece. When information cannot be independently verified, we note the limitation. If errors are discovered after publication, we correct them promptly and transparently.
Independence and Integrity
Editorial independence is non-negotiable. Our reviews, ratings, and editorial decisions are never influenced by advertising relationships, label partnerships, or access considerations. Writers and editors must disclose any personal or financial relationships with artists, labels, or companies covered in their work. We do not accept payment for reviews. Sponsored content, when it exists, is clearly labeled and separated from editorial content.
Corrections Policy
We take errors seriously. When we identify or are notified of a factual error in published content, we investigate promptly. Confirmed errors are corrected in the original article with a clear correction notice indicating what was changed and when. Significant corrections are noted at the top of the article. We do not silently alter published content. Readers can report errors by emailing info@thetunemag.com with the subject line “Correction Request.”
Ethical Coverage
We approach music coverage with respect for the artists and communities we write about. We do not sensationalize personal struggles, mental health issues, or private matters for the sake of clicks. When covering sensitive topics—such as allegations of misconduct, legal disputes, or personal crises involving artists—we apply the same standards of fairness, sourcing, and restraint that define responsible journalism in any field. We seek comment from all parties involved and report allegations as allegations, not established facts.
Attribution and Sources
We properly attribute all information to its source. When we reference reporting by other publications, we credit them clearly. We do not plagiarize or pass off others’ work as our own. When using anonymous sources, we require that the information be verified through at least one additional source and that editors are aware of the source’s identity. We honor agreements about source confidentiality.

Great music journalism reflects the full breadth of the musical world. We are committed to covering artists across genres, geographies, and backgrounds. We actively seek out voices and perspectives that are underrepresented in mainstream music media.
