'I've never understood why singing one kind of music should mean you can't sing another," said Mechael.
"Opera expresses one part of me. Pop expresses another. There are emotions I can communicate through classical music that I can't express in exactly the same way through a pop song, and the opposite is true too. They're all part of my voice, and they're all part of who I am."
That philosophy holds deep personal meaning for Mechael, whose connection to classical music began long before her contemporary recording career took off. As a teenager, she performed with the Michigan Opera Theatre at the Detroit Opera House, appearing in productions including “Carmina Burana,” “Don Giovanni,” “Tosca,” and “La Bohème.” She also grew up singing sacred works in the Catholic Church, where Latin liturgy and classical choral traditions shaped her early vocal foundation.
Yet Mechael’s professional journey would eventually stretch far beyond the opera house.
Throughout her independent catalog, she has explored pop, electronic music, cinematic production, orchestral arrangements, and stripped-down recordings while building an international following.
