Los Ángeles Azules have provided the soundtrack to some of the most important moments in the lives of millions of families”— Councilmember Imelda PadillaLOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, September 9, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Los Angeles City Councilmember Imelda Padilla (District 6) will launch the City’s Latino and Hispanic Heritage Month festivities with two major events centered on one of Latin music’s most legendary acts, Los Ángeles Azules, linking a historic cultural tribute in the San Fernando Valley with one of Los Angeles’ most significant annual Latino celebrations.
On Monday, September 14, Councilmember Padilla and the City of Los Angeles will formally name “Los Ángeles Azules Square” at the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Chase Street in Panorama City, paying homage to the iconic band from Iztapalapa for its remarkable musical journey, cultural impact, and lasting bond with generations of Angelenos.
This designation carries particular weight in Panorama City, a neighborhood rich in Latino and Mexican heritage, and underscores Councilmember Padilla’s dedication to cultural fairness, community empowerment, and the creation of public spaces that honor the individuals and traditions that have shaped Los Angeles. The site also emphasizes the cultural and economic significance of the Van Nuys Boulevard corridor and the Councilmember’s ongoing initiatives to drive its renewal.
Los Ángeles Azules will attend the historic unveiling and will leave their handprints as part of the ceremony, establishing a permanent tribute to their legacy in the San Fernando Valley. Their September 14 appearance is ceremonial, preceding their headlining performance at El Grito 2026 the next evening at Los Angeles City Hall.
The following day, Tuesday, September 15, Los Ángeles Azules will perform as the HEADLINERS of El Grito 2026 on the historic Spring Street steps of Los Angeles City Hall, delivering their signature cumbia sound at one of the City’s most vital annual Latino cultural gatherings.
Councilmember Padilla will act as this year’s official Madrina, guiding the civic celebration as thousands of Angelenos unite for an evening of live music, culture, and community. Acclaimed Latin soul artist Trish Toledo will start the concert, and comedian and entertainer Concrete (Cristian Gutierrez) will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
Collectively, these two events embody a core theme of this year’s celebration: honoring Latino culture not only through its past, but also through the neighborhoods, artists, families, and traditions that continue to define Los Angeles today.
“Los Ángeles Azules have provided the soundtrack to some of the most important moments in the lives of millions of families,” said Councilmember Imelda Padilla. “To honor their legacy here in the Sixth District and then celebrate together with Angelenos at El Grito the following day is a powerful way to begin Latino and Hispanic Heritage Month — recognizing where our culture comes from, how it connects generations, and the extraordinary role it continues to play in the story of Los Angeles.”
