Twenty‑five long‑lost recordings from the Osmond family’s early days have been restored and given a new purpose: helping children read.
“I came to understand that these were more than just tapes,” he noted. “They represented a lost chapter of the Osmond story — made with the intention of aiding kids”— Matthew Glavach, Ph.D.CLOVERDALE CA 95425, CA, UNITED STATES, August 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — A set of twenty‑five children’s songs recorded by Donny and Marie Osmond when they were teenagers, long tucked away and forgotten, has been uncovered — and is now being utilized to teach children how to read. These recordings, which began as a volunteer family initiative, were recently unearthed by reading expert Matthew Glavach, Ph.D., who heads StrugglingReaders.com.
During the late 1970s, Donny (age 20) and Marie (age 18) laid down a series of children’s tunes with lyrics drawn from controlled early‑reader word lists. Every word they sang was also a word meant to reinforce reading abilities. Their brothers helped with the music, turning the effort into a complete Osmond family project. Due to various circumstances, the program never made it to stores, and the tapes were put aside.
Years later, while running StrugglingReaders.com, Glavach tracked down the original cassettes. “I understood that these were more than just recordings,” he stated. “They were a hidden piece of the Osmond family’s legacy — designed to support children, yet never released.”
Glavach refreshed the program using up‑to‑date reading research, incorporating rhythmic timing exercises proven to aid learners with dyslexia. The revamped material is now part of They Sing Into Reading, a contemporary literacy resource that blends beat, melody, and reading instruction.
“This project started as a service effort by the Osmond family,” Glavach said. “Today it can at last serve its original mission — helping kids learn to read.”
