The St. John’s vocalist also secures a position on the U.S. “New in Rock” chart

ST JOHNS, NEWFOUNDLAND & LABRADOR, CANADA, August 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Pop-punk artist MADELINE, hailing from Newfoundland, has secured a spot at number four on Apple Music’s premier “New in Punk” playlist worldwide — one of the platform’s most fiercely contested hand-picked stages — with her independently released single “You Like.” This ranking is currently active on the identical global playlist across Apple’s storefronts in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and Japan. In the U.S., which represents the largest streaming market globally, the song has also earned a place on Apple Music’s “New in Rock” playlist at the #65 spot.

This achievement is uncommon for an artist from Atlantic Canada. An examination of roughly 220 punk, rock, and pop-related artists from Newfoundland and Nova Scotia revealed only seven who had any confirmed inclusion on a global, genre-specific Apple Music playlist over the last five years. Within that group, MADELINE stands out as one of just two fully independent musicians, and she is the only one documented in the top ten of a flagship “New in [Genre]” playlist.

In a Canadian streaming environment where the three major labels are responsible for an estimated 72% of listening activity, a self-published track breaking into Apple’s global punk and rock categories is remarkable.

This placement was achieved through merit: “New in Punk” and “New in Rock” are curated manually by Apple Music’s genre editors, not driven by algorithms, fan voting, or advertising spend. “You Like” was co-written by MADELINE (Madeline Salter) alongside Adrian Morris of Halifax (Neon Dreams), who also produced the song; Corey LeRue handled the mixing and mastering.

The magnitude of what MADELINE has accomplished deserves clarification. Apple Music’s library surpassed 100 million songs in 2022 and has continued to expand daily. Across the industry, an average of 106,000 new tracks were delivered to streaming platforms each day in 2025 — a 7% increase from 2024 — according to Luminate’s 2025 Year-End Music Report. A top-10 position on a flagship global playlist represents a highly limited piece of real estate that would be a major milestone for an artist signed to a major label, and it is a true rarity for an unsigned performer.

“You Like” plunges directly into the conflict between self-preservation and self-destruction, blending raw, confessional lyrics with anthemic energy. It functions as an “angry girl anthem” that transforms frustration into empowerment. MADELINE delivers a fearless track that captures the emotional push-and-pull of toxic patterns, trauma, and the complicated appeal of staying when you know you ought to leave.

Drawing from the legacy and inspiration of Avril Lavigne, P!NK, Olivia Rodrigo, and the narrative sharpness of Alanis Morissette, Madeline has established a name for herself by converting emotional turmoil into cathartic anthems with previous singles *Letting Go* and *MESSY*. Earlier this year, she released *1AM*, a slow-burning track designed for late-night reflection.

Locally, MADELINE has already been gaining traction. MusicNL nominated her for Pop Artist of the Year in 2024 and Rock Artist of the Year in 2025, and recently announced two additional 2026 accolades (Rock Artist of the Year, Solo Artist of the Year).
MADELINE began performing at age 5 and was writing songs by 9. She released her debut self-titled EP *Madeline* in 2020 at just 15, followed by her 2024 EP, *Memoir*, which provided an unfiltered and emotional account of her high school years.
