Key music industry organizations, including the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), have introduced a shared labeling system designed to inform listeners when generative AI plays a role in recorded music.

The initiative establishes a consistent approach for voluntary track labeling, drawing a line between tags for 'AI-generated' content and 'AI-assisted' content, which will be adopted by digital music platforms and additional partners.

This rollout follows the April revelation that a troubling 44% of all new songs uploaded to streaming service Deezer qualifies as AI slop. At the same time, Apple Music has stated that more than one-third of its submissions are entirely AI.
