NY, UNITED STATES, October 6, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Mathew Knowles appears alongside Harold “Lefty” Williams on The Art of Rebounding, discussing parenting, Star Search, and how the Destiny’s Child brand took shape
This latest installment of the PODGO Original Podcast, released October 6, offers an inside look at Star Search, how Destiny’s Child was named, and the idea that “failure is an opportunity to grow, not a reason to quit.”
NEW YORK, October 6, 2026 — A fresh episode of The Art of Rebounding, a PODGO Original Podcast hosted by former professional athlete and motivational speaker Harold “Lefty” Williams, dropped today. It features music executive, author, and educator Mathew Knowles. The discussion traces Knowles’ journey from a top-ranked corporate sales professional to the mastermind behind one of the most iconic girl groups in history, along with the parenting strategies that shaped it.
Before entering the music world, Knowles dedicated two decades to medical sales at Xerox and Johnson & Johnson, where he achieved top worldwide sales rep status and, as he notes, became the first Black salesperson to sell MRI and CT scanners across the United States. He tells Williams that he approached the music industry with a distinct strategy: “They were selling records. I was building brands.”
During the episode, Knowles reveals:
• The pivotal moment at Star Search. After a young Beyoncé and her ensemble lost the competition, Knowles left his corporate job to manage them full-time, reorganized the group, and rebuilt it in Houston.
• The origins of the name Destiny’s Child. A biblical verse, a cease-and-desist notice, and a three-hour window to come up with a new name before the group’s first appearance on the Men in Black soundtrack.
• A passion-driven approach to raising children. Knowles never dictated career paths to his kids. Instead, he introduced them to NASA visits, ballet, science fairs, and libraries, observing what naturally captured their interest.
• Navigating family dynamics within a group. Some choices, he admits, “weren’t best for Beyoncé, but they were the best for the group.”
• Insights from basketball. A former college player whose jersey was retired by UT Chattanooga and a co-owner of the WNBA’s Chicago Sky, Knowles credits athletics for keeping him composed under pressure: “I thrive better in chaos.”
“It was all about them finding their passion, not me telling them what they are going to be,” Knowles states. “When you have to tell your child to go practice or rehearse, it’s a hobby.”
Knowles also touches on Destiny’s Child Reimagined, a candlelit tribute performed by a string quintet with his live narration, which has visited 25 U.S. cities and has additional dates scheduled for early 2027. He wraps up with a reflection on hardship: “Failure is an opportunity to grow, not a reason to quit.”
“Mr. Knowles is someone who should be studied,” Williams remarked. “He knows what it takes to fail, regroup and win again, and that’s exactly what this show is about.”
