Rob MacCachren, off-road legend, returns to CORR with TWO Motorsports’ new two-truck Pro 2 team

When the Championship Off-Road Racing series resurrects its Pro 2 truck class this November, it won’t just be bringing back a vehicle category — it will be welcoming home the driver who last won its championship. Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Famer Rob MacCachren, widely known as “The King of Off-Road,” has signed with TWO Motorsports to pilot the team’s #21 truck for the 2026–27 season, the organization announced from Nashville on October 29, 2026.

MacCachren will share the track with team owner and driver Justin Ward, who will drive the #7 truck. The two will make their debut as teammates at the CORR presented by AMSOIL season opener, scheduled for November 19–22 at Firebird Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. The move marks MacCachren’s return to the series where he claimed the 2008 Pro 2 championship — the final title awarded before the original CORR series ended.

Nearly two decades later, MacCachren is also reuniting with a familiar voice in his ear. Dan Sunderland, who served as his crew chief from 2011 to 2013, will be back on the radio. Sunderland was the man guiding MacCachren when he captured his 200th career race win at the 2012 Crandon World Championships.

“I won the last CORR Pro 2 championship, and I wasn’t going to miss Pro 2 coming back,” MacCachren said. “Justin is building this team the right way, with the right people and the right equipment. Having Dan back on the radio makes it feel like home. I’m ready to go to work at Firebird.”

Ward’s own entry into short-course racing began almost by accident. “I went to Crandon on a whim and came home knowing I wanted to be part of this sport,” he said. “The racing is incredible, the people are the best in motorsports, and more fans need to see it. Our job is to build a team that competes for wins and a model that lasts. Having Rob in the #21 sets the standard for all of us. We are grateful and humbled that so many of Rob’s longtime partners chose to stand behind him and behind this new team right away. I’m proud to call him my teammate, and I plan to learn from him every lap.”

Sunderland echoed the sense of reunion. “Rob and I won a lot of races together, and that 200 at Crandon is one of the best days I’ve had in this sport,” he said. “I never expected to be on the radio with him again. Rob knows what he wants from a truck before it turns a wheel. Getting the band back together is something special.”

The return of Pro 2 racing is part of a broader resurgence in short-course off-road competition. The 2026–27 CORR season will also revive the Pro Buggy class, with events scheduled at Firebird Motorsports Park, Glen Helen Raceway, and Las Vegas Motor Speedway. All races will receive national television coverage on RACER Network. In addition to its CORR campaign, TWO Motorsports will compete in the AMSOIL Championship Off-Road series, bringing its two-truck Pro 2 program to fans across both national circuits.

“Rob MacCachren is one of the most accomplished drivers in the history of off-road racing, and having him return to CORR with an exciting new organization like TWO Motorsports as we bring Pro 2 racing back is incredibly meaningful,” said Trevor Hocking, CORR Series Director. “Rob was our final Pro 2 champion in 2008, and seeing him return speaks to the history of this series and the future we’re building. We’re excited to welcome Rob, Justin, and the entire TWO Motorsports organization to the grid.”

MacCachren’s credentials are staggering. He has amassed more than 300 career victories, including seven overall SCORE Baja 1000 wins and a class-record 21 SCORE Trophy Truck wins. He has won three BorgWarner World Championships at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway and was inducted into the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2011. And he is still winning. Together with Luke McMillin, he took the overall win at the 2024 Baja 1000 and finished second in 2025. As this announcement was made, MacCachren was in Baja preparing for the 59th SCORE Baja 1000, scheduled for November 9–15, where he will chase an eighth overall victory.

The #21 truck he will drive is not an arbitrary number. It has long been tied to his name and also matches his record 21 SCORE Trophy Truck wins. TWO Motorsports has given that record the title it has earned: The King of Off-Road.

Ward’s own story is one of rapid acceleration. After his first exposure to short-course racing on a whim at Crandon, he left with a passion for the sport. In just a few months, he built TWO Motorsports into a two-truck Pro 2 team, complete with a race shop in northern Wisconsin and a leadership group with deep roots in off-road racing. He now takes the green flag as MacCachren’s teammate.

TWO Motorsports, LLC is owned by Ward, who also drives the #7, and Amanda Stophel, who serves as the team’s Brand Director. The team’s number stable includes the #7, #14, #21, and #77. The #7 and #21 Pro 2 trucks will compete in CORR presented by AMSOIL and AMSOIL Championship Off-Road, while the #14 and #77 are reserved for planned future expansion. The leadership team also includes Commercial Director Reid Mobley, Competition Director Mitch McGrath, Crew Chief Dan Sunderland, and Director of Team Operations Paige McGrath. The race shop is headquartered in Spooner, Wisconsin, and the team is backed by the business infrastructure and shared services of The Ward Organization (TWO). Why it matters: The return of a living legend like MacCachren to a revived championship series signals that CORR’s reboot has real momentum. For fans, it means the Pro 2 class — long considered the pinnacle of short-course off-road racing — will be contested by one of its greatest champions, driving for a team built with serious infrastructure and ambition. This is not a nostalgia act; it is a statement that the sport’s future is being built on the shoulders of its most proven winners.
