College can be overwhelming, but learning to dance shouldn’t add to the stress — or the budget. That’s the idea behind Salsa Kings®’s return to Florida International University, where the Miami-based studio is now offering free salsa classes designed to get students moving, connecting, and having fun without spending a dime.
Salsa Kings®, recognized as one of the first salsa dance studios in Miami, is bringing its expertise directly to FIU students through a series of complimentary classes. The initiative marks the studio’s comeback to the university campus and provides a cost-free introduction to Latin dance, using the same proven instruction the studio has delivered across South Florida since 1998.
No experience? No problem. The classes are open to all skill levels, and there’s no need to bring a partner. The group sessions are designed to help participants feel confident from their very first step, while those seeking more individualized attention can opt for private lessons. Both approaches are built on the studio’s guiding philosophy: fostering meaningful relationships and strengthening interpersonal bonds through the joy of Latin dance.
Also worth a look: Terry Milla’s new film turns Election Day anxiety into an internal battle for civic duty and Third Space Improv earns autism certification, expanding inclusive creativity in St. Augustine.
That philosophy has clearly resonated with students. Aselya A., who takes classes at Salsa Kings®, had high praise for one of the studio’s instructors: “Ralph is truly the best! He knows Salsa better than anyone else I’ve learned from. He’s so much more than a teacher, he’s like a mentor who genuinely cares about your growth. He has such a gift for explaining even the trickiest footwork in a way that just makes sense, and he’s endlessly patient no matter where you’re starting from. You can feel how much love and passion he has for what he does, and it makes every class feel special. If you want to really learn Salsa, not just get by, I couldn’t recommend him more.”
For many college students, the price tag of a new hobby is the biggest hurdle. Salsa Kings® is removing that obstacle entirely for FIU students: by creating a free account at salsakings.com, they can claim their first group class and a beginner’s salsa video course at no charge. The video course is a handy tool for new dancers to practice foundational moves on their own timeline, whether they use it as a primer before attending in-person sessions or as a supplement alongside them. It’s also worth noting that the FIU classes are open to the general public, and existing Salsa Kings® members can join in at the studio’s standard rates.
Flexibility is another key selling point for students juggling hectic schedules. Kayla M., a Salsa Kings student, explained: “I just love that if Im not able to make it class on the days I normally go, I do have the option of going on other days too. If you want to learn how to dance salsa, and have fun doing it-one thing Salsa Kings will do is get you right!”
Tanya S. also shared her experience upon visiting one of the studio’s locations: “Atmosphere and instructors are amazing! Great location for those coming from parts of Hialeah, like myself! Thank you!”
This welcoming environment has been a hallmark of Salsa Kings® since its founding in 1998, when Cuban-born founder Elba noticed a gap in the Miami market for dedicated dance academies. What started as one of the city’s first salsa studios has since blossomed into a multi-location operation serving Doral, Homestead, Kendall, Cooper City, Cutler Bay, Weston, Miami, and Miami Lakes across both Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Now, that reach is extending into the university sphere. Beyond standard classes, Salsa Kings® also hosts workshops, VIP events, dance groups, and even a full-charter cruise for salsa enthusiasts through SalsaCruise.com — a vibrant community that FIU students can now tap into. The studio’s motto, #BetterTogether, encapsulates its core belief that personal growth flourishes through connection with others.
At the helm is Andres Fernandez, owner of Salsa Kings®, who brings over two decades of experience in salsa and the broader dance industry. Fernandez has made it his mission to demystify salsa for beginners and cultivate spaces where newcomers feel at ease. He’s supported by a leadership team including Rafael Valle, Tanya Soto, Mike Osborne, Cassandra Malanche, Pablo Peña, and Galo Paredes.
FIU students eager to get started can find more information about the free classes and set up their complimentary account at salsakings.com, or call +1 305-553-0555. Additional resources for beginners are available on the studio’s blog at salsakings.com/blog.
