TOKYO — October 23, 2026 — A brand-new animation project rooted in Shirow Masamune’s landmark cyberpunk manga Ghost in the Shell has formally entered production. This announcement follows the July 2026 broadcast and streaming of the TV anime THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, which itself represented a significant franchise milestone. The newly revealed project, however, is being positioned as an entirely separate and original creative undertaking.
Animation production duties rest with Science SARU, the same studio that delivered the 2026 television series.
