The globally renowned Canadian composer and pianist will craft a stirring musical signature that brings together musicians from every region of the country
QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC, CANADA, August 6, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Host Society for the 2027 Canada Games is pleased to reveal that Steve Barakatt, C.Q.—a Canadian composer, pianist, producer, and creative director—will compose and produce COURAGE, the Official Anthem of the 2027 Canada Games. Scheduled for February 27 to March 14, 2027, in Québec City, the Games will celebrate their 60th anniversary by returning to the same city that hosted the very first Canada Games in 1967.
Designed as an uplifting and powerful musical signature, COURAGE will embody the perseverance, excellence, inclusion, unity, and achievement that Canada Games athletes demonstrate. The anthem will highlight how sport and music can unite people across languages, cultures, provinces, and territories. Its recording will feature performers from across Canada, mirroring the national spirit of the event.
“The 2027 Canada Games will be a defining celebration for Québec City as we welcome the country back to the birthplace of the Games. With deep roots in our city and a musical career of global reach, Steve Barakatt brings a unique dimension to this historic collaboration. COURAGE will carry the spirit of the Games to athletes, visitors and Canadians across the country, while giving this edition a distinctive and lasting musical identity.”
— Marie-Hélène St-Onge, Chief Executive Officer, 2027 Canada Games Host Society
The creation of COURAGE will form an important part of the cultural legacy of the 2027 Canada Games, offering athletes, coaches, volunteers and audiences a shared musical expression of the values at the heart of the event.
“Like sport, music has an extraordinary power to unite people and shape the emotional journey of an event, building anticipation before the competition begins and creating memories that endure long after it has ended. Steve Barakatt’s distinguished body of work, spanning landmark global cultural and humanitarian projects, makes him an outstanding choice to compose the anthem for this historic edition of the Canada Games. We look forward to hearing COURAGE inspire athletes, coaches, volunteers and Canadians across the country.”
— Kelly-Ann Paul, President and CEO, Canada Games Council
Throughout his career, Barakatt has created official anthems and musical identities for prominent international, national and cultural organizations. His works include Lullaby, The UNICEF Anthem; Devenir, the Official Anthem of the Ordre national du Québec; Motherland and Jeonju Rhapsody.
“Composing and producing the Official Anthem of the 2027 Canada Games is a profound honour. As the Games return to Québec City, where they began 60 years ago, my ambition is for COURAGE to capture the determination of the athletes, the energy of the Games and the strength that comes from bringing Canadians together.”
— Steve Barakatt, C.Q., composer and producer of COURAGE
COURAGE will be composed and produced over the coming months and released globally by Universal Music. Details about the participating artists, recording process and official premiere will be announced at a later date.
