Launched in 2011, the St. Augustine Celtic Music & Heritage Festival evolved into a top cultural attraction across North Florida, bringing crowds to Francis Field for shows by international and domestic Celtic bands, authentic Highland Games, Celtic artisans, heritage cuisine, whiskey tastings, educational workshops, lectures, and family-oriented activities. The event also helped place a national focus on St. Augustine’s distinctive Celtic heritage, notably the city’s assertion of hosting the first recorded St. Patrick’s Day observance in the present-day United States in 1600 and the initial documented St. Patrick’s procession in 1601.

Throughout its history, the St. Augustine Celtic Music & Heritage Festival garnered recognition at both regional and national levels, including being named twice among the top 10 cultural festivals in the United States and receiving multiple “Best Of” awards. Its stages showcased acclaimed Celtic performers from Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and the U.S., while the Highland Games, parade customs, and cultural offerings linked locals and tourists to centuries of shared traditions.
The challenging choice to conclude these events stems from a shortage of State grants for arts and culture projects since 2024, reduced backing from local government, complications with U.S. Work Visa procedures, rising costs for supplies and labor, and other negative developments. Even with these events ending, Romanza-St. Augustine continues to be dedicated to fostering arts, culture, music, and heritage initiatives that enhance the community and honor the city’s notable past.
