owing to the advocacy and dedication of Vonda McDaniels, honored this Saturday at the Nashville Labor Day parade”— Cynthia BasinetNASHVILLE, TN, UNITED STATES, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — This Saturday, Nashville’s Labor Day Parade was held in remembrance and tribute to Vonda McDaniel, President of the Central Labor Council and community leader, following her unexpected death last July.
Unions including IATSE, SAG-AFTRA, SEIU, AFL-CIO, and many others throughout Central Tennessee paid homage to the first woman to rise from the USW’s Women of Steel Initiative at Bridgestone. Vonda later applied her expertise to organizing for union pensions and insurance. She was subsequently elected President of the Central Labor Council and later chosen as a Vice President on the national AFL-CIO Executive Council, as well as a Tennessee delegate to the DNC national convention.
Thanks to Vonda’s fearless advocacy, the Music City Center implemented its apprentice program. She served as a trusted advisor and confidante to numerous elected officials, including Mayor Freddie O’Connell, the Metro Council at large, and others.
The crowded parade highlighted Vonda’s capacity to extend beyond leadership, bridging labor, faith, civic engagement, and community justice.

Marching in the parade were representatives from gubernatorial candidate Jerri Green, Indigenous groups, politicians JR Clemens, Senator Charlene Oliver, who marched for #StandTogether alongside celebrated singer, actress, and activist Cynthia Basinet, as well as political hopefuls Darden Copeland and his family.
After Papa Bill addressed the exuberant crowd, Mayor Freddie O’Connell read the proclamation of Vonda McDaniel Week and illuminated the bridge in her Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority colors.
