Valaztein Merges Epic Fantasy with Themes of Bravery, Fidelity, and Exploration
"Valaztein" centers on Naomi Elistaire, a banished princess who flees the dungeons of her former home. With a fierce resolve to take back her kingdom, she gathers an unlikely group of thieves, assassins, and young nobles before embarking on a voyage to find an army capable of facing an age-old menace.
The narrative guides readers through dragon-filled caves, magical libraries, icy combat arenas, mermaid caverns, ancient pyramids, and upside-down deserts. Along her path, Naomi discovers new cultures, languages, and customs that expand her worldview and fortify her determination. Interwoven throughout the book are themes of bravery, loyalty, found family, atonement, and belonging.
Real-World Journeys Shape the Novel’s Imaginary Realm
Numerous kingdoms and landscapes in Valaztein draw from Emilia’s own travels. Before her sixteenth birthday, she had explored 63 nations alongside her family, using those encounters to craft the varied settings seen in the story.
The vast deserts reflect time spent living with a nomadic eagle hunter’s family in Mongolia. Madagascar’s jagged limestone cliffs inspired a notable landscape, while the Exumas’ famous caves gave rise to the book’s memorable siren grotto. Historic libraries and theaters visited in Vienna also helped shape several magical locations within the novel.
Poetry and original music are woven into the narrative, showcasing Emilia’s love for storytelling across various creative mediums. At select tour stops, she will perform "The Siren & Her Sailor," an original song featured in Valaztein, offering audiences a chance to experience another artistic layer of the tale.
A Teen Author Building on an Award-Winning Literary Path

In addition to fiction, Emilia’s poems, plays, and stories have been honored through the Scholastic Awards, the Interlochen Red Wheelbarrow, the LaPlume Young Writer’s Contest, and the StageWorks One Act Festival.
