Following more than 30 years of delivering top-tier blues music at the seaside, the Board of Directors has decided to conclude the Springing the Blues Festival
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, FL, UNITED STATES, August 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Following more than three decades of bringing premier blues performances to the shoreline, the Board of Directors has decided to retire the Springing the Blues Festival. This news arrives in the wake of the resounding success of the 34th annual event, which took place in April 2026. The Board of Directors wishes to express its profound appreciation to the community.
The board unanimously agreed that the original core mission, launched back in 1991, has now been fully achieved. Although organizers understand this announcement will surprise many loyal supporters, a comprehensive examination of 34 years of “Keeping the Blues Alive” initiatives demonstrates that the festival has fulfilled its role exceptionally. Today, the blues genre thrives, remains robust, and continues to gain momentum each day.
“This choice was made with heavy hearts but great pride,” said executive director Sam Veal. “We wanted to end this remarkable chapter on a high point, celebrating the substantial cultural and economic legacy we have left on Jacksonville Beach. Our gratitude is endless to our fans, artists, volunteers, and the City of Jacksonville Beach for enabling this vision for more than 30 years.”
Established with the goal of honoring both traditional and contemporary blues music, the festival evolved from a modest local event into a celebrated three-day seaside tradition. However, managing rising operational expenses, logistical changes, and the shifting landscape of large-scale free events led the board to conclude that the festival has reached its natural and successful conclusion.
The Board plans to produce a digital retrospective in the coming weeks to honor the musicians, staff, and unforgettable moments that characterized the festival’s historic run. Reflecting on the event’s deep roots and extensive community influence, Founder and Executive Director Sam Veal offered a compelling overview of what the festival achieved.
“At the start, our aims were to unite the community through music by establishing a ‘Point of Destination’ event and to help preserve and promote Blues Music,” Veal said. “Our ‘Blues in the Schools’ programs introduced thousands of local students to the blues. Our economic impact surpassed $50 million. We created tremendous economic opportunities for many local businesses and filled area hotels. Each year, we offered an amazing musical experience and a fun-filled weekend that was completely free to the public. We presented the best contemporary and traditional blues artists we could afford.”
The festival’s legacy will continue through its two core organizations. The Springing the Blues Foundation, Inc. (the charitable arm) and Jax Beach Festivals, Inc. (the operational arm) will remain a lasting positive force in the community. Both organizations will unveil exciting new initiatives and plans over the next several months.
