Brandon Sandefur Charts His New Locale on the Country-Rock Track "Pensacola Rollin'"
Having spent a quarter-century in Nashville, Brandon Sandefur now turns his attention to a different kind of country-music setting. He has settled in Pensacola, Florida, where the shoreline, local bars and the Three Mile Bridge are woven into his daily routine—and now serve as the foundation for "Pensacola Rollin'," a tune grounded in what Sandefur considers his own slice of heaven. The Texas-born musician, who was once an All-Conference linebacker, arrived with significant experience behind him. Sandefur launched his career performing on the Texas dance-hall circuit alongside A Little Bit of Texas, then relocated to Nashville in 1996 and quickly secured a record deal. His first album, Walking Backwards, yielded two GAC Top 10 hits, while its title cut became a worldwide line-dance favorite, accumulating 80,000 downloads across the US, Europe and Asia. He later established himself as a Nashville fixture, warming up crowds for Waylon Jennings, George Jones and Merle Haggard before ultimately moving away from the city that had largely shaped his musical path.
In addition, Sandefur has returned to the studio to record fresh material for a forthcoming EP. For the moment, "Pensacola Rollin'" captures his present reality: a country-rock piece inspired by the city, its well-known spots, and the everyday existence he has made his own.
Co-produced by James Adkins and Brandon Sandefur, "Pensacola Rollin'" emerged directly from that transition. The track practically functions as a guide to Sandefur's adopted town, weaving the beach ball, the Sandshaker, Hub Stacy's, the Three Mile Bridge and the Blue Angels into its depiction of life along Florida's coast. Rather than treating the state as a vague backdrop, Sandefur pulls from places and landmarks he knows personally, lending the song a distinctly regional flavor. At its core, the piece celebrates the satisfaction of liking where your journey has brought you. The shores, pubs and familiar stops amount to more than mere references; together, they illustrate how completely Sandefur has adopted his environment. After decades anchored to Nashville and the music industry, he is now composing about what lies immediately before him—and savoring every moment.
The companion video captures that same energy onscreen. Sandefur performs with his guitar on the shore, totally embracing the ideal Florida beach atmosphere as sunlight streams, people enjoy themselves, and the Blue Angels fly overhead. Clips filmed at the Sandshaker bring one of the song's local icons into view, ensuring Pensacola life stays at the center of the visuals. It is a natural extension of the world Sandefur writes about—sun, sand and a location he is clearly thrilled to call home.
