Launched in July 2021, Performing Arts at Fawn Lake (PAFL) delivers world-class musicians from around the world to perform live within the private Fawn Lake community. The organization was established as a Club—a nonprofit, resident-run arts group that works inside Fawn Lake, making use of the community’s own center, which is known for its first-rate acoustics.
Since its inception, PAFL’s lineup has featured an impressive roster of talent: Violinist Michelle Kim (the first to perform), Soprano Cree Carrico, Broadway Actor Dwayne Clark, Violist Brett Deubner, the Duo of Martinez-Forteza and Nieto-Forteza, Pianist Maxwell Foster, Baritone Prince Havely, Musicians Intersection Trio, Pianist Duk kyu Kim, Violinist Kyungha Ko, Pianist Blair McMillen, Tenor and Broadway star J. Mark McVey, Lyric Baritone Chrístopheren Nomura, Pianist John Novacek, the Jazz Duo of Marcus Printup and Riza Printup, Music Director Ethan Smith-Cohen, Pianist Gerald Steichen, Cellist Wendy Sutter, Soprano and Broadway star Gay Willis, Pianist William Wolfram, and Soprano Monica Yumus.
As Artistic Co-Directors, violinist Michelle Kim and lyric baritone Chrístopheren Nomura jointly oversee PAFL’s programming direction.
What distinguishes PAFL is not only the high standard of its performers but also the closeness of the experience. Musicians are welcomed directly into Fawn Lake residents’ homes, building personal connections between world-class artists and the audiences that receive them. Performers have frequently commented on the genuine hospitality they encounter and the unexpectedly fine listening environment within a private residential setting.
Background on Fawn Lake:
Fawn Lake is a gated, master-planned community located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, within 15 miles of Fredericksburg and 25 miles to Culpepper. Developed in the late 1980s, it is home to close to 1,400 single-family homes built around a 288-acre deep-water lake with more than seven miles of wooded shoreline. Amenities include an Arnold Palmer Virginia Masterpiece 18-hole golf course, a private country club featuring lakeside dining, and a wide array of recreational and social offerings for residents and guests. Fawn Lake is a family-friendly neighborhood with a blend of retirees and young families.
